It has been more than 18 years since Vikas Sharma has been pursuing his dream Journalism profession. He started his journey way back in 2005 with a local english daily “Early Times” in Jammu after completing Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGDJMC) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
In 2006, the seasoned journalist got selected in the leading English Daily of J&K Union Territory, “Daily Excelsior” as a Sports Correspondent. He had worked in the prestigious media house for 6 years from 2006 to 2012 wherein he got the opportunity to cover many national level sports events hosted by the then erstwhile J&K state.
During his stint in Daily Excelsior, Vikas Sharma completed Masters Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC) from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Hisar, Haryana in 2010.
In March 2012, Vikas Sharma’s long cherished dream of joining national print media was fulfilled when he was selected in the coveted National English Daily “The Tribune” as a Staff Correspondent in Jammu Bureau in J&K. Initially, Vikas focussed on sports beat wherein he covered many national level events in multi-disciplines hosted by J&K but later he also started doing stories in Education beat along with sports beat with special emphasis on schools, colleges, universities, IITs, IIMs, etc.
Vikas has also done stories on Union Ministry of Rural Development, Pradhan Mantri Gram SadakYojana, JawaharNavodayaVidyalayas, KendriyaVidyalayaSangathan (KVS), SamagraShiksha, Kasturba Gandhi BalikaVidyalayas (KGBVs) etc. He worked in the newspaper from March 2012 to September 2020 for 8 years consistently.
Presently, Vikas Sharma is associated with “Greater Jammu” English Daily Newspaper, J&K UT as a Sub Editor/Senior Correspondent since April 2022. He also qualified 11 international certificates in Journalism from prestigious media organisations like AFP, Reuters, and Thomson Foundation, Alison and Union Nations Organisation (UNO) bodies like UNICEF, WHO.
